iWebPress iWebPress: User Guide

5.1. Web Publishing Panel
  1. To get to the Web Publishing Panel, navigate to the Publish menu and click on Web Publishing.

If this is the first issue you are publishing, you might want to change the Current theme (sometimes referred to as the default theme). As discussed in the Templates section, a theme is simply a package of templates bundled together to represent different types of pages. You can also think of a theme as your site's design or appearance. The Current theme is simply the design you would like to use on all pages and for all issues for which don't explicitly decide to use a different design.

  2. Next, find the issue you would like to publish (or un-publish).

If you haven't already ranked your content in order of relative importance, you should do so now. Section and assignment ranking is used to organize the web version of your paper, in lieu of page numbers (for your printed version). Assignments and sections shown at the top of this list are displayed first or otherwise prioritized. You can rank assignments in a given issue at any time - even once they are published, assuming you have the proper permission level (Editor-in-Chief or above) - by clicking on Rank items in this panel.

  3. Once you've ranked your assignments, click Publish issue (or Modify Publication settings if you want to un-publish, change the publication date, or customize the appearance of the issue).
  4. You are now in the Issue Publication Panel and are once again presented in step 1 with a choice of themes. This is not repetitive - changing the theme here will change it only for this issue and use the Current/default theme for all other future and previously published issues.
  5. In step 2, every assignment in the issue appears in the section and order/rank that they will be in on the website. Verify that the organization is correct before you continue.
Ensure that every assignment you want published has a green page icon to its left. This indicates it has been explicitly Approved for Publication by a user with at least an Editor-in-Chief access level. Once assignments are designated as approved, they will become available online as soon as the issue is published. If an assignment is approved after the issue to which it belongs, it will become available immediately. See Assignment Information Fields for more information.

In this section, you can customize the appearance of a section page, a single assignment, or all the assignments in a section by clicking on the appropriate link. Please see the Template Design Guide prior to altering your theme.
  6. Finally, in step 3, enter the date and time (in YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm format) at which you would like this issue to become available to the general public and then click Publish (if you are changing the publication date but have already specified another, just hit publish again). This is useful if your work-schedule ends on Friday afternoon but you want the online release to coincide with the distribution of your Monday morning paper. You may also click Un-publish to remove the issue from your site.
