iWebPress iWebPress: User Guide

2.2.7. Administrative Settings

Administrative Settings allow senior members of your publication to define the role of others. Please note that these options are only available to Can delete & modify writers permission level and those with a user level lower than the user that they are editing to not have access to all options. You are also prevented from deleting or otherwise disabling yourself.

Miscellaneous notes
Miscellaneous notes can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, you could record the programs that the user is familiar with (i.e. "Expert at Photoshop, and InDesign") or rate the person's abilities (i.e. "Jane is great at graphic design and photography, but needs help with her writing. Have John work with her."). The possibilities are limitless. Notes are never viewable to anyone with less than Can add writers & assignments (20) permissions and can even be made to be collapsed by default to shield them from prying eyes (See Site Preferences).

Title
Title is the title of an individual in your organization. For example, "Editor-in-Chief" or "Business Manager." This field is publicly available.

Access Level determines the amount of control a user has over all aspects of your content. Each user inherits the permissions of those above it. The user panel provides a brief but limited definition of the scope of each access level. For more detail, see Permissions.

isActive
If you decide to uncheck the isActive option, a user will not be able to log in and will not appear on lists (unless you specifically search for them). This is useful if you have freelancers working for your paper or former writers whose information you wish to keep (so their stories remain available online, for example). If you uncheck isActive when adding a new user, they will receive an e-mail asking them to confirm their information, at which point they can activate their own account.

Other
If users are behaving inappropriately or you would rather not let them have control over their profile, you may disable editing of their profiles (meaning that the user you are limiting cannot edit it, not other users), the sending of private messages, or the displaying of user portrait photos (this will not remove the current picture, only prevent its replacement).
