iWebPress: User Guide |
Private Messages
iWebPress has built in private messaging capabilities, which enable staff to communicate amongst one another quickly and easily, without the use of email. Private messages can be thought of as an interpersonal memo, but sent through iWebPress. Any user can send and receive private messages to any other iWebPress user. If the user is using iWebPress, they will receive a popup notification that they have a new private message. Users can optionally be notified by email when they receive a private message (this can be set in the user's profile).
Private messages are meant to be a quick and easy method of communication within iWebPress, requiring no external software (email client or otherwise). For this reason, they are quick and usable from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection and a web browser.
To access your Private Message Inbox, go to My Account > Private Messages.
Private messages are sorted into an Inbox and an Outbox. The maximum number of private messages you can store is set by the administrator. Also note, by default private messages will be pruned (removed) after they are 30 days old. This can be prevented by clicking the private message and selecting Save.
To send a private message, you can click the PM icon (available throughout iWebPress such as in User Profiles). You can also go to the Private Message Inbox and click the Compose icon.
Emailing within iWebPress
While sending email messages en-masse is discussed throughout this chapter, it is important to note you can send email to just a single individual or small set of individuals. iWebPress has a built in mail client, capable of sending messages. This enables editors to send email to users without having to launch their own mail client.
Wherever email addresses are displayed in iWebPress, they are highlighted as links. Clicking on the email address will bring up iWebPress' mail client (asking if you want to send a blank or template email message). Select blank, and follow the mail wizard's directions.
You can also send mail by going to Users > Email. This will bring up the iWebPress mail client, and allow you to compose a message. Select blank and click next. A list of users will be displayed. You can check as many users (or as few as one), and send a message. More detail on using the iWebPress mail client is available in the various email sections in this chapter, as well as the Emailing Users section in the chapter above.
