iWebPress iWebPress: User Guide

3.4. Assignment Types and Relationships

iWebPress was designed to support relationships between one assignment and another. These relationships are used to keep track of which assignments should be associated to other assignments. For instance, if you wish to publish an image with a story, you want to make the image assignment a child of the article. This can be done with the hierarchy field when adding or editing an assignment.

The hierarchy field enables you to associate one assignment with another. This allows the two assignments to move around the system together, and publish together.

You can associate an article and image by creating the article assignment, then the image assignment. Then edit the image assignment, and set its parent to the article to which it is to be associated. This can also be automated in the Add Assignments page by clicking "Add an image child with this assignment."

Please note: You can create multiple children for each parent. Since each assignment has a single unique assignee, it is recommended you create a separate assignment for every person. For instance, if you have two photographers going to an event, create two image children for one parent. Each child can have an unlimited number of images, and each parent can have an unlimited number of children. All these images will be seamlessly associated with the parent when you publish to web.

Children always have the same section as their parent assignment, and this is updated automatically when you change the parent assignment. You can also rank children within their parent on the ranking page. See the Assignment Ranking section for more information on ranking assignments.
