iWebPress iWebPress: User Guide

3.1.3. Publication Fields

Issue

This sets the issue to which the assignment belongs. This field is mandatory and controls which issue the assignment will show up in. You can change an Assignment's issue at any time. You can also create assignments in future issues (once the issue has been added in the Issue Management panel). Please note this field's default value is not the most current issue, but rather the default issue, as also set in the Issue Management panel. This enables future issues to be created, but the current/production issue to still be the default.

Section/Category

This controls which section the assignment will be published in, in your web publication. On the web, your issue will be divided into sections (such as Front Page, Community News, Sports, et cetera). Each assignment must exist in a section. Children assignments (discussed below) must be in the same section as their parent. See the Section Management section for more information on creating and deleting sections.

Page

The page the assignment will be printed on in your print edition. This field is primarily here for you to keep track of your assignments in your print edition, and has no bearing on how iWebPress publishes assignments online. Future versions of iWebPress will enable you to visually see the status of pages online.

Byline

Use this field to override the assignee/author for this assignment on your web edition. You need not set this field unless you want to override the author. This is useful if you are going to publish an assignment written by a user not in the iWebPress system. While using this field is a rapid way to publish such content, doing so will not enable you to track a user's assignment history (since no user is created). It is recommended that for repeat contributors, you create an account for every member of your organization.

Hierarchy

The hierarchy field enables you to associate one assignment with another. This allows the two assignments to move around the system together, and publish together. This is used when you want to create an article and an image, and have them print together.

You can associate an article and image by creating the article assignment, then the image assignment. Then edit the image assignment, and set its parent to the article to which it is to be associated. This can also be automated in the Add Assignments page by clicking "Add an image child with this assignment."

Please note: You can create multiple children for each parent. Since each assignment has a single unique assignee, it is recommended you create a separate assignment for every person. For instance, if you have two photographers going to an event, create two image children for one parent. Each child can have an unlimited number of images, and each parent can have an unlimited number of children. All these images will be seamlessly associated with the parent when you publish to web.

Children always have the same section as their parent assignment, and this is updated automatically when you change the parent assignment. You can also rank children within their parent on the ranking page.
